Set up the Free edition
- Back up a staging store with WooCommerce active. Install the Free ZIP and activate it.
- Open HookSpark → Checkout Customizer Free. The layout starts disabled.
- Enable the Free layout, choose an accent color and select a logo from the media library. Save changes.
- Test your existing checkout on desktop and mobile, including a failed validation and a test order. Disable the layout to return to the original appearance.
What Free changes
Free adds a single-column layout, an accent divider, keyboard focus styling and an optional shop logo. It works with the classic checkout and the Checkout Block. WooCommerce retains control of checkout fields, coupons, addresses, totals, shipping and payments.
Choose the right edition
Premium offers ten classic designs, guided layouts, more visual controls, a classic field editor, draft previews and saved designs. These controls are shown as disabled options in the Free admin. No Premium code, license requirement or promotion is added to the customer checkout.
Using Free and Premium together
Premium controls the checkout whenever it is active. Free retains its settings separately. Deactivating Premium restores the saved Free appearance if Free remains enabled. Settings are not transferred automatically between editions.
Logo and accessibility
Use a logo from your local WordPress media library. Its alternative text uses your shop name. Removing or deleting the logo keeps the remaining layout settings. Choose an accent that contrasts with the checkout background, and test keyboard navigation with your theme.
Tested scope
Local checks: WordPress 7.1.2, WooCommerce 11.1.0, PHP 8.2.29 and Twenty Twenty-Five 1.5. Classic and Blocks layouts were checked at 320, 390, 768 and 1280 pixels. A synthetic €20 order completed in each checkout using the local cash-on-delivery test method. Invalid required fields remained visible in classic checkout. Settings authorization, invalid inputs, logo selection/removal and Free/Premium loading order were checked.
These tests do not certify online gateways, 3DS, every theme, tax/shipping combination or minimum platform version. Test your own store before production use. This is a development download, not a stable release.
Updates, data and removal
Install a newer Free ZIP through WordPress to update; keep a backup first. Deactivation and plugin removal retain the presentation settings for a later reinstall. No customer or payment data is stored by Free, and no telemetry or remote account is required. Automatic delivery of updates is not provided by this preview.
Frequently asked questions
Can Free edit checkout fields?
No. Free keeps native WooCommerce fields. The separate Premium edition includes a field editor for classic checkout; it does not provide a Blocks field editor.
Does activation change the live checkout immediately?
No. Enable the layout in its settings and save when ready. Existing saved settings apply again after reactivation.
Can I use it without a license?
Yes. Free has no license check or update-entitlement requirement.
Which edition does the current public demo show?
The existing Checkout Customizer demo shows Premium designs. A dedicated personal Free demo is still being prepared.
